High Fire Danger

High When the fire danger is "high", fires can start easily from most causes and small fuels (such as grasses and needles) will ignite readily. Unattended campfires and brush fires are likely to escape. Fires will spread easily, with some areas of high-intensity burning on slopes or concentrated fuels. Fires can become serious and difficult to control unless they are put out while they are still small. Mowing or edging generally be done in the morning. Mowing, edging, or clearing dead vegetation should be limited to the morning hours. Having a nearby source of water may be helpful.

Director John Vargas

Director John Vargas is a veteran of the United States Marine Corp and a veteran public safety professional in both law enforcement and the fire services. Director Vargas and his wife have raised a family and called the City of Lathrop home for well over 20 years. John recently retired from the Livermore - Pleasontan Fire Department. Director Vargas owns his own private security firm and is routinely called upon to provide services to the bay area and beyond. Director Vargas brings a valued perspective to the board after serving the Fire District as a firefighter before leaving to serve at the Livermore - Pleasontan Fire Department.

Director Vargas was appointed to the Fire Board by the Lathrop Manteca Fire District's Board of Directors after a board vacancy, application process, and a thorough review of community member applicants.

Term of Office: March 2025 - December 2026
