Employment and Volunteer Opportunities
At the Lathrop Manteca Fire District, we’re committed to providing excellent service to our communities while supporting the people who make that service possible. We’re looking for dedicated, service-minded professionals who take pride in helping others, working as a team, and continuing to grow throughout their careers.
If that sounds like you, we invite you to explore the opportunities below and learn more about joining the LMFD team.
We offer the following:
- Competitive Salary- Our current salary schedule is available by clicking here. We believe compensation should be straightforward and transparent. Our salary and benefit structure is designed so employees can clearly understand their total compensation without unexpected reductions to fund benefits.
- Defined-Benefit Retirement- Employees participate in the San Joaquin County Employees’ Retirement Association (SJCERA), a defined-benefit retirement system. The plan provides a predictable retirement benefit, including an annual cost-of-living adjustment, helping employees plan with greater confidence for the future.
- Social Security Contributions- The LMFD contributes to Social Security on behalf of eligible employees. Combined with the SJCERA retirement plan, these benefits provide employees with additional flexibility and options when planning for retirement.
- Skill & Certification Incentives- We recognize employees who develop specialized skills and take on additional technical responsibilities. Eligible incentives currently provide up to 17.5% in additional compensation.
- Education Incentives- Advanced education is valuable to our organization and our communities. Employees with qualifying degrees can receive up to 5% in additional compensation.
- Health Insurance- The LMFD provides comprehensive health insurance through CalPERS-administered health plans. Depending on the plan selected, the District covers the full cost of the PERS Platinum PPO Plan for employees and qualifying dependents. Employees who select a more expensive plan pay only the difference in premium, while lower-cost plans may require no employee premium.
- Retiree Health Benefits Options- Employees can also build significant retiree health benefits through unused sick leave. Employees accrue 216 hours of sick leave each year, and eligible unused hours can be converted to a benefit toward medical coverage at retirement.
For example, an employee retiring with 4,000 hours of accumulated sick leave at the top Step Engineer salary could have more than $223,000 available toward medical benefits for themselves and qualifying family members, based on the 2025 MOU salary and incentive schedule.
