How does the Lathrop Manteca Fire District utilize this program?
The LMFD uses this program to allow selected policy makers the ability to get a first hand experience at extinguishing a fire in a controlled training exercise. Firefighters assist in the fitting of proper safety gear. Members are then provided training instruction on the proper use and wearing of the appropriate safety gear. On the day of the event, participants are typically guided through the extinguishment of a live fire training exercise. Their full safety is of paramount importance. We recognize that participants have families, loved ones, careers, and public service that requires them to return to.
What is Fire Ops 101?
Fire Ops 101 is an education experience for individuals to learn more about the level of training, personnel, and equipment needed to perform the job of a firefighter. The idea was presented by the International Association of Firefighters at an annual conference to expose decision makers in the community to the role of an actual firefighter.
